Importants of Small Onions

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people, there was a Doctor who visited many farmers to see if he could
help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it, and many died.

The doctor came upon one farmer, and to his surprise, everyone in the household was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different, the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one, and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work... (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year, and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild
case...Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a P.S. to this, for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but I do know that I contracted pneumonia, and needless to say I was very ill...I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion. Put one end on a fork, and then place the forked end into an empty jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs. Sure enough, it happened just like that...the onion was a mess, and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note:

LEFTOVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS!
I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge. Sometimes I don't use a whole one at one time, so I save the other half for later. Now with this info, I have changed my mind. I will buy smaller onions in the future. I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, makers of mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.

Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers. Ed is a chemistry expert and is involved in
developing most of the sauce formula. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.

Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the quintessential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to
keep a portion of a sliced onion. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put it on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

So, how's that for news? Take it for what you will. I (the author) am going to be very careful about my onions from now on. For some reason, I see a lot of credibility coming from a chemist and a company that produces millions of pounds of mayonnaise every year.
Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook the next day. I t becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of
excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

Breathing Therapy

The nose has a left and a right side; we use both to inhale and exhale.

Actually they are different; you would be able to feel the difference.
The right side represents the sun, left side represents the moon.
During a headache, try to close your right nose and use your left nose to breathe.

In about 5 mins, your headache will go?

If you feel tired, just reverse, close your left nose and breathe through your right nose.
After a while, you will feel your mind is refreshed.

Right side belongs to 'hot', so it gets heated up easily, left side belongs to 'cold'.

Most females breathe with their left noses, so they get "cooled off" faster.

Most of the guys breathe with their right noses, they get worked up.

Do you notice the moment we wake up, which side breathes faster? Left or right? ?

If left is faster, you will feel tired.
So, close your left nose and use your right nose for breathing, you will get refreshed quickly.

This can be taught to kids, but it is more effective when practiced by adults.

My friend used to have bad headaches and was always visiting the doctor.

There was this period when he suffered headache literally every night, unable to study.

He took painkillers, did not work.

He decided to try out the breathing therapy here: closed his right nose and breathed through his left nose.

In less than a week, his headaches were gone! He continued the exercise for one month.

This alternative natural therapy without medication is something that he has experienced.

So, why not give it a try?

A Blind Girl (Story)

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought flooking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later rote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

EIGHT LIES OF A MOTHER

This story begins when I was a child: I was born poor. Often we hadn't enough to eat. Whenever we had some food, Mother often gave me her portion of rice. While she was transferring her rice into my bowl, she would say "Eat this rice, son! I'm not hungry."
This was Mother's First Lie.

As I grew, Mother gave up her spare time to fish in a river near our house; she hoped that from the fish she caught, she could g
ive me a little bit more nutritious food for my growth. Once she had caught just two fish, she would make fish soup. While I was eating the soup, mother would sit beside me and eat the what was still left on the bone of the fish I had eaten, My heart was touched when I saw it. Once I gave the other fish to her on my chopstick but she immediately refused it and said, "Eat this fish, son! I don't really like fish."
This was Mother's Second Lie.

Then, in order to fund my education, Mother went to a Match Factory to bring home some used matchboxes, which she filled with fresh matchsticks. This helped her get some money to cover our needs. One wintry night I awoke to find Mother filling the matchboxes by candlelight. So I said, "Mother, go to sleep; it's late: you can continue working tomorrow morning." Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep, son! I'm not tired."
This was Mother's Third Lie.

When I had to sit my Final Examination, Mother accompanied me. After dawn, Mother waited for me for hours in the heat of the sun. When the bell rang, I ran to meet her.. Mother embraced me and poured me a glass of tea that she had prepared in a thermos. The tea was not as strong as my Mother's love, Seeing Mother covered with perspiration, I at once gave her my glass and asked her to drink too. Mother said "Drink, son! I'm not thirsty!".

This was Mother's Fourth Lie.

After Father's death, Mother had to play the role of a single parent. She held on to her former job; she had to fund our needs alone. Our family's life was more complicated. We suffered from starvation. Seeing our family's condition worsening, my kind Uncle who lived near my house came to help us solve our problems big and small. Our other neighbors saw that we were poverty
stricken so they often advised my mother to marry again. But Mother refused to remarry saying "I don't need love."
This was Mother's Fifth Lie.

After I had finished my studies and gotten a job, it was time for my old Mother to retire but she carried on going to the market every morning just to sell a few vegetables. I kept sending her money but she was steadfast and even sent the money back to me. She said, "I have enough money."
That was Mother's Sixth Lie.

I continued my part-time studies for my Master's Degree. Funded by the American Corporation for which I worked, I succeeded in my studies. With a big jump in my salary, I decided to bring Mother to enjoy life in America but Mother didn't want to bother her son; she said to me "I'm not used to high living."
That was Mother's Seventh Lie.

In her dotage, Mother was attacked by cancer and had to be hospitalized. Now living far across the ocean, I went home to visit Mother who was bedridden after an operation. Mother tried to smile but I was heartbroken because she was so thin and feeble but Mother said, "Don't cry, son! I'm not in pain."
That was Mother's Eighth Lie.

Telling me this, her eighth lie, she died. YES, MOTHER WAS AN ANGEL! M - O - T - H - E - R

"M" is for the Million things she gave me,
"O" means Only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the Tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her Heart of gold,
"E" is for her Eyes with love-light shining in them,
"R" means Right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell
"MOTHER" a word that means the world to me.

For those of you who are lucky to be still blessed with your Mom's presence on Earth, this story is beautiful. For those who aren't so blessed, this is even more beautiful.

Love Knows no Conflict

Love Knows no Conflict

There is a big major difference between Intention and Desire. Generally, actions happen through intention. For example; Suppose we want to go to Ottawa…. We will take a car and drive – notice there is no feverishness. Desire is intention with feverishness

The desire devoid of feverishness is Intention. Fools do not understand the difference!!
Desire is the cause of misery, sorrow. Wisdom is when you recognize the difference between intention and Desire. Whatever activity you are doing, be calm & centred – That's the Secret

'Sanyas' means centred well, letting go of the feverishness. Feverishness in activity that takes you away from love. Feeling one with Divinity is love. I am You; You are Me; No separation. This is the slogan of Love.

The friendship that arises with due to conflict / hatred is no friendship; it is only convenience. For example, a girlfriend goes out with someone else to make her boyfriend jealous:-). Conflict appears to bring closeness; it is illusory.

You take responsibility for others – so they don't get hurt… you see oneness here… This is the nature of Love – Oneness. Do you see yourself as a part of this universe, air, ocean… that is Love. Are you merged into this Existence?

In this material world, everything is in conflict

Water is in conflict with fire
Fire is in conflict with fuel
Air is in conflict with fire

Similarly, in life there is conflict. Do not try to solve conflict. Language of Love knows no Conflict.

Be indifferent to conflict. This arrests the first step of Love turning to hatred. It will not touch you, it will pass by. For example, you don't hate a stone, you just pass by. To rise beyond conflict /hatred, you have to be indifferent – achieve Divine Love which is beyond the opposites of Love & hatred. Brush aside Conflict. You save your mind, heart!!

What is total Oneness? Dropping others' support. For example, going to a counselor for resolving marital conflict. Support doesn't allow you to be 100%

Ananyata – totality of Oneness / merger. Recognise / honor everything / everyone – do not look for support. Money, fame, friendship, ego, prestige, love are examples of crutches – support. When stock market crashes, you also feel some part of you dies!!

When you come out of a relationship – you feel like you came out of Death – Because you are not centered. Its like two lame people trying to help each other. Drop all these supports. It's in your mind that these are your security.

For example, a very rich family from Uganda had to leave everything and go to London during the ethnic strife in their country. They had enough wealth to last five generations. But they reached London with just a suitcase and started life all over again, one of them remarked, "I started believing in the existence of God"

Money is not the security; God is the only Security

If you depend on divinity as support, you can help others. If you depend on people for emotional support, one day you will be in misery. Just the feeling " God Loves me is Bhakthi, devotion.

Either in worldly or spiritual activity, be in accordance with love. Be indifferent to conflict. Every action has imperfection. Engineers have made the world greedy. Doctors want more sick people in order to be successful. Don't see the flaws, you become a bundle of flaws and lose all virtues. For example, there are people who indulge in spiritual shopping!! – they end up a bundle of confusion!!

Be indifferent to Conflict when they arise in any activity. That is an indication that you're love is Strong. If intention is good, but action has gone wrong, don't blame.. for example, a doctor operates a patient by using a knife. Terrorist also uses a knife but here, even the Intention is wrong. But Compassion arises as you go beyond…

Another example is of a husband who lies to his wife because he is afraid to lose her. Truth may make him lose her! If at all there is a fight between love and truth, Love will always win!! Truth takes a backseat behind Love.

For example, Gopis complain to Yashoda about Krishna stealing the butter. Krishna denies stealing any butter. There is joy in stealing and eating!! Actually, this action symbolizes the stealing of their hearts!!

People tell lies with the fear of losing Love.
Conflicts in the Spiritual path reduces your Bhakthi. These conflicts we create in our Life and we super impose it on God. Ignore conflict whether in spiritual or material world. In Quran, Gita, etc., there may be conflict… truth is Contradictory / multidimensional.

Love has no Rules. Rules are a matter of head. Love is a matter of heart. Heart cannot blossom if it is not free. Freedom brings Love. Yet we follow the Laws of Nature.

How is it that Affirmations Work?

One of the challenges that a beginner learning about subcoonscious concentration or affirmations usually faces is that it seems too simple. That is, how can repeating a statement over and over again effect change in our life and even move forces of the world. To answer this doubt one must explore how affirmations really work.

The first misconception that we must quell is that our minds are mere thinking machines that can only passively process thought, that thoughts are imaginations of our mind, which in and of themself are inanimate or physically nonexistent. This is a misconception from the yogic point of view because, according to yoga philosophy all elements of Creation, physical and spiritual are part of the mind and reality. My guru taught me that the whole universe is contained within oneself. He explained that perception is the real reality. Without perception we cannot experience the world outside or inside us and it is the power of perception that shapes reality. The byproduct of perception are thoughts. It is through thoughts that we devise plans and learn to manipulate the world around us. If not for thoughts as the vehicle for intelligence there can be no invention or innovations by humans. It is through the power of perception and thoughts that we have all the modern conveniences we are used to and live a life on earth not as simple animals, but as super-intelligent beings apart from animals. Thus thoughts have the power to create and shape the world around us.

While it is easy to grasp how thoughts have the ability to shape the world around us, the theory of how affirmations work takes this further by implying that change can also be effected through the 'unconscious' realms of the mind. The sub of the subconscious realm of our mind is an area of the mind that we are rarely if ever, aware of. How then can this area of the mind be even more powerful than thoughts and perception, as yoga philosophy suggests? Well it is the realm of the 'unconscious' within us that drives the very way we perceive and therefore think. As explained earlier, a successful person, has the program of being successful within his or her sub of the subconscious. Because of this program they have a natural and powerful drive for success. They are not disheartened by challenges or hiccups in their plans. Failure is not in their vocabulary. They are driven by a feeling that comes from deep within them that keeps the light of success and confidence shinning. This is their real power, and this power goes even beyond their physical and mental abilities and attracts successful situations to them. We normally know this as luck but it actually has nothing to do with luck, instead it is the innate forces within the subconscious mind obeying the program of success within the person.

Yoga philosophy points out that the potent forces within our subconscious comes from the superconscious mind, or the mind of our soul. The ultimate source of this power is God Himself, Who resides deep within the core of our soul. In other words the affirmations that we place in our sub of the subconscious draws its ability to manifest the situations in our life from God Himself. Thus through subconscious concentration we can realize our dreams by utilizing this God-given powerhouse of a tool within us, our mind to its fullest potential.

The Three Secrets to Happiness

We all know that money can’t buy happiness … but many times we act as if we’d be happier with a bit more money. We are conditioned to want to be rich (when we know the rich aren’t happy either); we are trained to want the latest gadget or style that television tells us to want; we want to earn more money because then we’ll have the good life.

But none of that will bring us happiness. No matter how much we earn, no matter how much we have in the bank, no matter how nice our clothing or cars or toys, none of it will make us happier. And the sad thing is that it could take us decades of pursuing wealth and luxury items before we realize this.

So what will bring us happiness? Luckily, it’s three things that don’t cost a thing. These three things have been proven by research — surveys of hundreds of thousands of people about what they have, what their lives are like, and how happy they are.

Here they are, the Three Secrets to Happiness:

  1. Good relationships. We have a human need to be close, to be intimate, with other human beings. Having good, supportive friendships, a strong marriage or close and loving relationships with our family members will make us much more likely to be happy. Action steps: Take time, today, to spend time with your loved ones, to tell them what they mean to you, to listen to them, and develop your relationship with them.
  2. Positive thinking. I’m obviously a big proponent of positive thinking as the best way to achieve your goals, but it turns out that it can lead to happiness too. Optimism and self-esteem are some of the best indicators of people who lead happy lives. Happy people feel empowered, in control of their lives, and have a positive outlook on life. Action steps: Make positive thinking a habit. In fact, this should be one of the first habits you develop. Get into the habit of squashing all negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. Instead of “I can’t” think “I can”. It may sound corny, but it has worked for me, every time.
  3. Flow. This is a popular concept on the Internet these days — the state we enter when we are completely focused on the work or task before us. We are so immersed in our task that we lose track of time. Having work and leisure that gets you in this state of flow will almost undoubtedly lead to happiness. People find greatest enjoyment not when they’re passively mindless, but when they’re absorbed in a mindful challenge. Action steps: Find work that you’re passionate about. Seriously — this is an extremely important step. Find hobbies that you’re passionate about. Turn off the TV — this is the opposite of flow — and get outside and do something that truly engages you.

You’ve been given the Three Secrets to Happiness. Don’t waste them!

6th sense feel it by self

Ten people were going from one village to another. On the way they had to cross a river. After crossing they wanted to be sure all were there. Each one started counting but counted only nine. They were very distraught and began to cry for the loss of the tenth.

A wise man came along and asked them "Oh my dear friends, why are you crying?"

"We were ten but now we are only nine," they replied.

The wise man saw they were ten, so he asked them to count. Each counted nine but left out himself. Then the wise man made them stand and count, and he said to the last person, "You are the tenth!"

And they all rejoiced for having regained the tenth.

Similarly the five senses and the four inner faculties (mind, intellect, memory, ego) all lament when they lose sight of the Self. Then the Master comes and shows you that You are the tenth! Count, but never stop until you find the tenth. The joy is in finding the Ever Present.

With the knowledge of the Self inside everything is truly joyful.

Q: What did Brahma think when he made this creation?

Sri Sri: He didn't think before doing. He didn't take anyone's suggestion -- I would have given him a few.

Effortlessly

Spirituality is observing your own existence. Have you experienced your own body? Experiencing the various levels of existence - your own body, your breath, your mind, your emotion, and the source of your life - is meditation. Meditation is experiencing the life force and being conscious of it - and this is done effortlessly.

The grip of attachment

The grip of attachment is released with kripa (grace), kaal (time) and seva (service). Assume that you already have grace and give priority to time and service. It is not that all your attachments and desires will be fulfilled. Whatever is needed and good for you will be given. That which is unimportant, an illusion of the mind be discarded - this should be your prayer.

Freedom!

First understand what freedom is. Drop whatever burden you feel in the mind. Quieten the mind. The mind will say: ‘I want this’, ‘I want that’ - drop everything. Have the sankalpa: I am happy, contented and don’t need anything. When you are free, bliss follows you.

Life will continue like this.

So far what are all the decisions you have made. Are you happy with all these decisions? Life will continue like that! Sometimes you made good decisions and you see the positive side. See everything has a positive side and everything has its lapses. If you focus only on the lapses then every decision you make you will regret. But if you see the positive side then you will be happy and contented. And the more you are happy and contented more such things will happen in life. Got it?

Criticism!

Whatever you do, someone will criticize you. You will be blamed if you act, and even if you don’t act. If you speak, or don’t speak. You can’t keep pleasing everyone. If your focus is on finding shortcomings, either in yourself or in others, you cannot raise higher. Recognize that if someone gives a comment, reflect on it. If there is some truth, accept it. If not, then thank them and move on.
